Perhaps the largest drawback of today’s technology advancements is the speed at which electronic information is exchanged has become the norm, and when that technology doesn’t work as previously experienced or advertised, dissatisfaction and impatience begins to swell. It’s not too far of a stretch to say, “When technology stops working, the workforce stops.” because end-user productivity is at a minimum hindered, if not halted altogether.

(Stealing some ideas from VCs can create greater business value)

Venture capitalism. The term conjures images of dynamic new companies that change the very face of their industries; of investors whose foresight and vision turn small experimental firms into the very engine of our modern economy. Their success in identifying and cultivating the best of the new ideas and firms that are continually forming their success in identifying, cultivating, and growing some of today’s biggest companies leads to a simple question”how the heck do they do it, and, more importantly, what lessons can we learn from how venture capital firms manage the selection, management, and sale of their investments?”

Two lessons stand out above all others. First, VCs manage the investment portfolio using a systematic approach that takes into account both risks and rewards. Second, VCs insist their start-up companies outsource all noncore activities, from accountancy to marketing. What does this mean for IT?

The program, produced by The Gazette P&B, acknowledges the top 53 businesses and organizations in Maryland based on criteria including: companies’ annual revenue and employee growth; noteworthy product or service innovations; how the companies steered their way through the economic downturn; and how the companies have portrayed themselves as “good places to work.”

GANTECH Inc. announced today that it has been recognized by “Everything Channel” on the CRN Fast Growth 50 “Up and Coming” list. The list recognizes the fastest growing solution providers in North America. The Fast Growth 50 “Up and Coming” list is an extension to the Fast Growth 100, recognizing emerging companies that have shown notable growth. Companies on the Fast Growth 100 list average a two-year revenue growth of 130 percent and average annual sales of products and services of $172 million. The ranking is based on two years’ growth of net sales from calendar year 2008 to calendar year 2010.
