Well, what’s going to be the big news for End User Computing in 2016. In 2015, I spoke to many customers about the exciting developments in the industry. These were largely focused on persona management and application packaging. 2016 will surely build on these technologies and see them more tightly integrated with both on premises and off premises deployments.View Full Post

My last post discussed the collaborative opportunity we had to help lead, design, and build the overall sketch for a large Midwestern University’s use of vCloud Air and Horizon Air desktops for new online offerings. GANTECH provides services as well as solutions; to create that solution, we listen and ask questions. In essence, we go to school with each customer.

We recently had an opportunity to partner with a large Midwestern University to collaboratively design and implement a “digital lab” solution for two new online courses the University was delivering. The University chose to use VMware’s Horizon Air Desktops and vCloud Air for infrastructure for rapid deployment, scalability, and a premium experience. One particular challenge was that the solution had to be online within six weeks. If the solution were successful, Horizon Air Desktops and vCloud Air could become a larger part of the University offering to all students, not only for these two online courses. VMware brought GANTECH to the University as the EUC Elite Partner of choice.

There is a revolution underway that has the potential to be staggeringly transformational and, at the same time, highly disruptive; it is currently called the Internet of Things (IoT) trend. IoT (also referred to as “Internet of Everything”) devices have embedded network, computing and other information processing capabilities, which allow these devices to be interconnected. The number and types of devices that are being manufactured with these built-in IoT features are increasing rapidly. It is imperative to take notice of the IoT trend because it has a strong potential to redefine the Security risk equation within many enterprises.View Full Post

This year, GANTECH has been involved with VMware in a number of Horizon Air deployments. It is a very exciting opportunity to help drive adoption and make our customers successful in their EUC roadmaps. The Horizon Air platform is continuously maturing, providing new features to simplify the delivery of desktops and applications. As more and more VMware customers are evaluating Desktop as a Service (DaaS), my recommendation is to start at the beginning. Sometimes, you just need to go back to the basics. All virtual desktop projects should begin with an assessment of the existing environment to provide you the information needed to plan the right solution.View Full Post

When you go to a restaurant and peruse the menu, have you ever thought about what goes into how they meet or exceed your expectations with what they serve? The Chef must know every ingredient that goes into each dish. Do you think they care if there is going to be a supply shortage of an ingredient? What if a batch of ingredients goes bad? The Chef needs to know what items on the menu will be impacted.

A diversified oilfield services company, headquartered in the Midwest, needed to implement an all-cloud End-User Computing (EUC) solution for 5,000 employees working within a subsidiary of the company.  With an intentionally lean IT team, the oil and gas company needed their employees to be working at 100 percent power in a mere 24 weeks.

With the advent of virtualization and End-User Computing (EUC), a complex set of variables comes in to play in order to build a successful EUC solution. Over time, I have learned my best bet is to use the Occam’s Razor approach, designed by English philosopher William of Ockham. Occam’s Razor is a problem-solving principle that states among competing hypotheses that predict equally well, the one with the fewest assumptions should be selected.
